“I Helped Restore The E8s #4080 & #4068 Fund”

The Medina Railroad Museum has recently acquired a pair of 1953 vintage EMD E8 Passenger Locomotives in their original New York Central Lightning Stripe paint scheme! #4080 and #4068 are presently being stored in Lockport, NY near GVT’s (Genesee Valley Transportation) Engine House. When shop time can be leased, a small group of Volunteers is diligently working toward bringing both Units up to FRA requirements for service on MRM’s Excursion trains.

As a display of historic preservation “in motion”, it is our intent to operate and maintain the Units with all original components. Since both Locomotives have been out of service for several years, many parts of their vital systems are in need of repair or rebuild. We will thoroughly and methodically continue with the upgrade program from March through June of 2008 to initiate the next critical phase in June of inspections and test runs to get all the bugs out, at which time the Units will be moved to Medina for display and preparation for their operational debut in July (the E8s are the planned Power for an Excursion between Medina and Lockport, NY on July 21st during the LIONEL Collectors Club of America’s 38th Annual National Convention held in Buffalo, NY July 20 – 26, 2008).

More funding is needed to get these Locomotives readied for revenue service. Your Donation to the Museum’s “I HELPED TO RESTORE THE E8s FUND “ will help us toward completing the necessary repairs or part replacements for full operability and also underpin a solid program to run them for the public as often as possible .

The Medina Railroad Museum is a tax-exempt organization under IRS 501(c)(3) and donations are tax-deductable in the United States. Donations can be accepted using Pay Pal on-line or can also be made via mail. Please make your donation check payable to Medina Railroad Museum and mail to Medina Railroad Museum, 530 West Ave., Medina, NY 14103. Come and see them!! Just call the Museum to make arrangements.

It is our hope that operation of this Equipment will help the Museum in achieving higher recognition as a historic resource and tourist destination.
